Can you carry a thermometer on an airplane?
A medical thermometer containing mercury may be carried in either checked or hand luggage if it is packed in a strong outer packaging containing a sealed inner liner or bag made of a strong, impermeable or puncture-resistant mercury-impermeable material that prevents mercury from leaking out of the cargo item regardless of its position.
In other words, you need to securely pack the mercury thermometer so that it does not break, and so that if the thermometer breaks, the packaging does not allow mercury to escape from the packaging.
If the thermometer doesn't contain mercury, you may transport it in both hand luggage and registered baggage.
