Rules for the transportation of children under 2 years old and children with disabilities up to 12 years old
Children under the age of 2 (infants) and children with disabilities up to 12 years old can only travel with an accompanying adult. The accompanying adult must be a passenger over 18 years old or a passenger under 18 years old who is fully capable. A minor can become fully capable before reaching 18 by getting married or going through the process of emancipation. More information about recognizing a minor as fully capable can be found in Part 1 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation.

Typically, infants under 2 years old do not have a separate seat in the cabin — the child travels on the lap of the accompanying adult. However, if an adult is traveling with two or more children under 2 years old, one infant will travel on the lap of the accompanying adult, while the others must have separate seats at the fare rate for children aged 2 to 12 years. In this case, all children under 2 years old traveling in separate seats must be placed in car seats (cradles) during the flight. Requirements for car seats (cradles) can be found in the section "Child Safety Onboard".
The accompanying adult can also book a ticket for an infant under 2 years old with a separate seat in the cabin. To do this, when searching for tickets on the Smartavia website select the category "Infants with a Seat".
The number of children under 2 years old traveling without a separate seat on a specific flight may be limited.
We do not recommend flying with an infant who is less than 14 days old. If you need to take a flight, we will ask you to sign a special document — a guarantee obligation — stating that you understand all risks and that the airline is not responsible for any adverse consequences and/or deterioration of health that may occur for the newborn due to the flight. You can prepare this document in advance (forms can be downloaded via the link), and if that’s not possible, we will provide the document at the check-in counter at the airport.
Cost of flights for children under 2 years old
Children under 2 years old without a separate seat in the cabin:
- on domestic flights, they fly for freeunless special rules apply at the time of booking;
- on international flights, they fly for 10% of the fare paid by the accompanying adult unless otherwise specified at the time of booking.
If an infant under 2 years old travels in a separate seat — regardless of whether it is by decision of the accompanying adult or according to airline rules — the cost of their ticket will be calculated at the rate for children aged 2 to 12 years.
Baggage allowence for children under 2 years old
Children under 2 years old who do not occupy a separate seat in the cabin are entitled to one piece of baggage free of charge, weighing up to 10 kg and with dimensions not exceeding 115 cm in total (length + width + height ≤ 115 cm).
