Dangerous items permitted for transportation

Back
The following items and substances are permitted for transport by crew members and passengers on board an aircraft under required conditions
  1. In checked baggage in the aircraft’s cargo holds, with restricted passenger access to baggage during the flight:
    • A medical thermometer containing mercury, in a standard case — one per passenger;
    • crossbows, spearfishing guns, sabers, cutlasses, machetes, swords, rapiers, bayonets, daggers, knives: hunting knives, knives with retractable blades, with locking mechanisms, weapon replicas of any kind, utility knives (scissors) with blades longer than 60 mm;
    • alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of more than 24%, but not exceeding 70% by volume, in containers not exceeding 5 liters, in retail packaging—up to 5 liters per passenger;
    • liquids and alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of 24% or less by volume;
    • aerosols for sporting or household use, with discharge valves protected by caps to prevent accidental release, in containers not exceeding 0.5 kg or 500 ml—up to 2 kg or 2 liters per passenger;
  2. In items carried by passengers (carry-on luggage):
    • Medical thermometer not containing mercury;
    • mercury barometer or manometer packed in a hermetically sealed container and secured with a sender’s seal;
    • disposable lighters — one per passenger;
    • dry ice for cooling perishable goods — up to 2 kg per passenger;
    • hydrogen peroxide — up to 100 ml per passenger;
    • non-hazardous liquids, gels, and aerosols: in containers with a capacity not exceeding 100 ml (or equivalent volume in other units), packed in a securely sealed, transparent plastic bag with a volume not exceeding 1 liter — one bag per passenger;
    • portable electronic devices (including e-cigarettes, pipes, and other vaporizers for personal use, as well as power banks and spare batteries) containing lithium batteries are permitted only in carry-on baggage. Transporting portable electronic devices in checked baggage is prohibited.

Spare batteries and power banks must be protected against short circuits by being placed in individual retail packaging or by isolating the terminals (the terminals must be insulated or placed in a separate plastic bag or protective case). More on transporting lithium batteries

Liquids in containers larger than 100 ml are not allowed in cabin baggage (carry-on) even if the container is partially filled. Exceptions are made for medications, baby food, and special dietary needs.

Liquids purchased in duty-free stores at the airport or on board the aircraft must be packed in a securely sealed (taped) plastic bag that ensures access identification to the contents during the flight, with verified proof that the purchase was made in duty-free airport stores or on board the aircraft on the day(s) of travel.

Due to current transportation security measures, the following items are prohibited in the cabin:

  • corkscrews;
  • needles for subcutaneous injections (unless medical justification is provided);
  • knitting needles;
  • any scissors;
  • folding travel or pocket knives with blades less than 60 mm in length, without a locking mechanism.
Dangerous items allowed in passenger baggage only with Smartavia’s approval

The following dangerous items are allowed in passenger baggage, provided they are approved by Smartavia:

  • dry ice not exceeding 2 kg, used for packing non-hazardous perishable goods in checked baggage, provided the packaging allows the carbon dioxide to dissipate;
  • portable gas cylinders with air or oxygen for medical purposes—in checked baggage or carry-on;
  • securely packed cartridges for sporting firearms (category 1.45) — only in checked baggage, not exceeding 5 kg gross weight per passenger, for personal use only, excluding ammunition with explosive or incendiary charges. Allowances for multiple passengers cannot be combined;
  • wheelchairs or other mobility aids powered by dry cell batteries — only in checked baggage, provided the battery is disconnected and terminals are insulated to prevent accidental short-circuiting, and the battery is securely attached to the wheelchair or mobility device;
  • wheelchairs or mobility aids powered by electrolyte batteries — in checked baggage only, under specific conditions;
  • one portable carbon dioxide cylinder integrated into a life vest, plus one spare cylinder — in checked baggage or carry-on baggage;
  • heating devices, such as underwater flashlights (diving lamps) and soldering irons, only in checked baggage. The heating element or power source must be removed;
  • A small oxygen generator for personal use, meeting specific conditions — only in checked baggage.
